Band The Way Home, featuring members from Waveney, are looking forward to a home coming gig in Bungay

A band who met in London and were united by their Waveney roots will be travelling back to the region next month for a special homecoming gig.

Amy Beskin, of Bungay, Nicholas Swietlik, of Lowestoft, and Rye Eden, Paul Tiffen and Hannah Riches all of Beccles, formed heavy gospel group The Way Home in the capital in 2009.

Last year they were joined by keyboard player Andreas Millins, from Putney, and they are now set to release two EPs and perform at a number of live shows and festival across London and the South East.

Among these shows will be a homecoming gig in Bungay next month and the group are looking forward to returning for the show.

Former Sir John Leman student and guitarist Paul Tiffen, 35, said: “It means a lot to us to be able to play this gig, we’re really looking forward to playing back where it all started.”

Multi-instrumentalist and former Bungay High student Hannah Riches, 31, added: “It’s lovely for us to be able to see so many friendly and familiar faces in the audience. It’s like playing in our own front room. Playing back in Suffolk where we all grew up just seems so right.”

Singer Amy Beskin, 30, also studied at Bungay High School, while bass player Rye Eden, 30, went to Sir John Leman, and drummer Nicholas Swietlik, 32, went to Kirkley High School.

Together they create a sound that mixes classic rock, soul and country.

Their forthcoming release, The Ship EP, was recorded at East London’s Soup Studio and mixed by Grammy nominated Sam Farr at Ravenscourt Studios.

The Ship EP will be released on February 13 and the band will be performing at The Fisher Theatre, in Bungay, on Friday, February 24. Advanced tickets are £5 or £8 on the door. To book call 01986 897130.
